Al W. King III
Al W. King III is a Co-Founder, and is currently Co-Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer, of South Dakota Trust Company, LLC (SDTC), South Dakota Planning Company, LLC (SDPC), and the Estate Planning Institute (EPI). SDTC is a national trust boutique for the wealthy based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. SDPC is a trust/estate planning, consulting, marketing, and sales firm based in New York City. EPI is a seminar, training, and continuing education company based in New York City.
Mr. King was previously Managing Director and National Director of Estate Planning for Citigroup. He was also the Co-Founder and Vice Chairman of Citicorp Trust South Dakota. Previously, Mr. King served as Director of Financial and Estate Planning for Coopers and Lybrand in Stamford, Connecticut.
Prior to joining Coopers and Lybrand, Mr. King was a Vice President and Director of Financial and Estate Planning with Shawmut Bank as well as the Northeast Director of Financial and Estate Planning for Prudential-Bache Securities. Mr. King was also a Senior Staff Attorney/Financial Counselor with the AYCO Corporation, a fee-based financial counseling firm.
Mr. King is a member of the Editorial Board of Trusts and Estates
Magazine and a member of the National Association of Estate Planning Councils (NAEPC) Advisory Committee. He is also a member of several other groups and organizations, including Society of Trust & Estate Planning (STEP) Fairfield County and New York City Estate Planning Councils. Mr. King's comments on estate planning topics frequently appear in several publications. Additionally, he addresses multiple professional organizations, special interest groups, and general audiences on the subject of estate and financial planning.
Mr. King received a Bachelor of Arts Cum Laude from Holy Cross College, a Juris Doctor from Syracuse University Law School, and an LL.M. in Tax Law from Boston University School of Law.
Pierce H. McDowell III
Pierce H. McDowell III is a Co-Founder, and is currently a Co-Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer, of South Dakota Trust Company, LLC and South Dakota Planning Company, LLC. The former is a national trust boutique company for the wealthy, based in Sioux Falls, South Dakota; SDPC is a trust/estate planning consulting, marketing and sales firm based in New York City.
Mr. McDowell was the Co-Founder and President/Chief Trust Officer of Citicorp Trust South Dakota. Due to South Dakota's attractive trust, asset protection and tax legislation, Mr. McDowell is responsible for servicing the trust and estate needs of clients across the United States and the world as they create trusts in and move trusts to, South Dakota. Prior to joining Citibank, Mr. McDowell practiced law with Woods, Fuller, Shultz and Smith of Sioux Falls, and was formerly a Vice President, Trust Administrator, and Business Development Manager for both Norwest and First Banks.
Mr. McDowell is nationally known and frequently quoted by Forbes and other publications on the advantages of South Dakota trust law. Mr. McDowell received the Citibank outstanding sales awards for 1996 and 1998 as well as the 1997 Epic Award for his articles in
Trusts & Estates magazine on South Dakota trust planning.
Mr. McDowell serves on the Board of the South Dakota Planned Giving Council. He has been appointed to the Philanthropy Committee with the South Dakota State Bar Association. He is the Chairman of the South Dakota Bankers Association's Trust Committee, a member of the South Dakota Bar Association's Real Property, Probate & Trust Law section and serves on its Probate and Trust Committee and the Legislative Committee. Mr. McDowell is a member of the University of South Dakota Foundation Board of Trustees, as well as a former member of the Advisory Board for Trusts & Estates magazine.
Mr. McDowell received a Bachelor of Science from Arizona State University and a Juris Doctor from the University of South Dakota.
Jacalyn Bunkers
Jacalyn (Jackie) Bunkers is a Senior Vice President of South Dakota Trust Company, LLC as well as the Chief Financial, Operations, Tax, and Audit officer. Additionally, Ms. Bunkers is a senior member of SDTC's Distribution and Investment committees.
Prior to joining South Dakota Trust Company LLC, Ms. Bunkers was Vice President of Citicorp Trust South Dakota for six and a half years. During that time she was responsible for all financial data, compliance, audits, and office management. Additionally, she was responsible for the administration of several large family relationships.
Prior to joining Citicorp Trust South Dakota, Ms. Bunkers was Vice President of U.S. Bank (formerly First Bank) in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, for nine years. During that period she was the Senior Tax Specialist responsible for preparation and filing of more than 650 fiduciary tax returns for all types of trusts. Ms. Bunkers administered trust accounts for three years, then supervised the South Dakota trust operation of U.S. Bank.
Ms. Bunkers received her CPA designation in 1985 during her public accounting experience as a Senior Auditor/Accountant.
Robin Moug Stephens
Robin Moug Stephens is a Senior Vice President/Senior Trust Officer with South Dakota Trust Company, LLC as well as the Chief Policy and Procedures Officer. Additionally, she is a senior member of SDTC's Distribution and Investment committees.
Prior to joining South Dakota Trust Company, Ms. Stephens was a Vice President with Citicorp Trust South Dakota for five years. During that time she was instrumental in the establishment of that company by facilitating the acceptance of over 200 new trust accounts from across the United States and throughout the world. She was also responsible for the continual administration of over 200 personal trust accounts with a market value of over $1 billion and annual fee revenue of over $2.5 million.
Throughout her years in the trust business, Ms. Stephens has been able to develop and maintain respected relationships with attorneys and advisors for very-high-net-worth individuals, many of whom are listed in the Forbes 400.
Prior to joining Citicorp, Ms. Stephens served as Assistant Vice President, Trust Administrator with U.S. Bank (formally First Bank) in Fargo, North Dakota. She is member of the South Dakota and North Dakota Bar Associations as well as the Sioux Falls Estate Planning Council.
Ms. Stephens received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting and a Juris Doctor from the University of North Dakota.
Matthew Tobin
Matthew Tobin is the Managing Director of the South Dakota Trust Company, LLC. His primary responsibilities include legislation management, special projects administration, new client/business development, general office administration, and development and management of the Private Family Trust Company business.
Mr. Tobin was formerly a member of the law firm Siegel, Barnett & Schutz, LLC. where his private law practice focused on general and business litigation. He also received considerable experience in negotiations, mediation, and alternate dispute resolution. Prior to joining Siegel, Barnett & Schutz, Mr. Tobin was a partner in the law firm of Johnson, Heidepriem, Miner, Marlow & Janklow, LLP.
Mr. Tobin attended St. John's University in Collegeville, Minnesota, and received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1994 with an emphasis in political science / government and economics. After college, Mr. Tobin spent approximately two years working for United States Senator Thomas Daschle. Mr. Tobin worked for Senator Daschle in Washington, D.C. and in the field office in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Mr. Tobin attended the University of South Dakota School of Law and received his Juris Doctor in 1998. While in law school, he received the Cali Award for Excellence, was a member of the Dean's List, was a member of the Moot Court Board, and served as the director of the R.D. Hurd Volunteer Law Society. After graduation from law school, Mr. Tobin served as a law clerk for the Honorable Roger Wollman, Chief Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals, Eighth Circuit, from 1998 to 1999. He is a member of the American Bar Association, State Bar of South Dakota, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association.
Mr. Tobin is married (Tara) and enjoys spending time with his wife and children. He also enjoys sports, traveling, hunting, golf and coaching youth hockey.
